Robert moved to Arizona over 30 years ago, raising his 3 kids and benefiting from the Arizona Dream.  The dream that brought him here is disappearing for our kids and grandkids.  Our border is flooded, our personal economy is struggling, inflation has been out of control and leadership in Washington DC has failed to lead and fix any of the issues we face.

Robert has over 30 years Global Experience in Computer Chips, Internet, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare.   He knows how to balance budgets, fight to get things done and bring together different views to solve a common problem.

It’s time for change in our Congressional leadership after 14 years of a Do Nothing Congressman Schweikert.    Robert is running to solve the problems we face and restore the Arizona Dream.

Sending Robert Backie to Washington DC means things will change and start to get done.

Over 10 million have come across our borders in the last 4 years.    We need to close the border by building the wall, installing technology and hiring more Border Agents to enforce a secure border.

Our current Congressman has failed to propose or push for any legislation that would solve the problem.  After 14 years of Doing Nothing, it’s time to bring in a Businessman who gets things done!

We talk about a broken border but don’t fix what drives people to cross into our country.  The current law says that anyone “physically present in the United States…. may apply for asylum.”  Which means, once you set foot in the United States you have the right to claim asylum.   

This is the main driver of border crossings….  smugglers teach those crossing to claim asylum when they find a Border Agent.  And then they have the legal right to remain in America until their hearing which is now being scheduled 10 years out.

I will fix this problem by changing the law to require all Asylum requests be done before crossing into the USA using technology to do virtual hearings and determine eligibility before they leave for the border.  We already use this technology for Zoom, FaceTime and other online meetings.  It’s simple, secure and would provide legitimate Asylum seekers easy access to come to the USA via an existing border crossing Port of Entry.

While many in the news talk about a “strong economy,” you and I know that our finances have taken a huge hit over the past few years.   Over the last four years, our grocery prices are 40% higher, insurance costs have skyrocketed, gas and other goods have gone up but our paychecks have not kept up with the costs we are facing.

We need a plan to bring prices back down, raise our income to cover costs and reduce inflation back to historical norms below 2% per year.

Robert has a strong business background including running companies and teams.  He understands the impact costs have on our personal lives and will focus on reducing the drivers of inflation including regulation and rules that limit what companies can do to keep costs low.  Robert knows how to solve the problems and can be the leader we need in Washington DC to finally solve the issues created over the last few years.

Robert is the son of a Pastor and Registered Nurse.  Growing up in the church, Robert learned early from his parents that we treat all people with respect, provide honest feedback and do not lie to those we lead.   Robert is known for his honest, ethical leadership including taking on issues that may not be politically popular but are the right thing to do.

Over the last decade, Robert has led the Arizona Telecommunications and Information Council, fought DEI in the City of Scottsdale, was an early leader in the #yesPHX startup community, mentored startups through the Arizona Commerce Authority programs and been instrumental in promoting business in our district.    He was in the front row when Governor Brewer signed Telemedicine into law as the group he led was instrumental in getting the law passed.

Robert is also on the Arizona Concours d’Elegance and Town of Paradise Valley Car show committees which raise money for Make-A-Wish and Veteran’s programs and attends Highland Church in North Scottsdale.

Social Security is in a financial mess and without immediate attention will begin cutting benefits to those in the program in the near future.   Our current Congressman talks about finances but fails to be a leader bringing others together to solve the problem.

Robert will fight to secure our near term Social Security program while proposing long terms solutions for our young generation to secure their retirement future.
